Issey Miyake is an avantgarde designer from the old world. He was born in 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan. He was just seven years old as the atomic bomb hit the city. The immense personal dismay, which was caused by that tragedy, has leaded him finally to the decision to study in fashion. He wanted to create something beautiful, optimistic and modern.

His path has guided him all over the world - Tokyo - Paris - New York - and then back to Tokyo again in 1970, when he etablishes his own label ISSEY MIYAKE, which quickly became one of the most important high-end fashion labels worldwide.

His fashion is driven by the unexpected, but also by simplicity. His colours and shapes have always been separating from the whole fashion industry. He has also been a pioneer in terms of material's choice: Already in the 80's he was experimenting with innovative fabrics and recycling ideas.
