Rafi Balouzian, born and raised in Armenia, was introduced into the tradition of shoemaking by his father and grandfather. Even back then, he learned the importance of vegetable tanned leather for the wearability of shoes. With a great deal of shoe experience, Rafi set-up a factory hor his label CYDWOQ (pronounced "sidewalk") in Burbank, California, in 1996. There his shoes and bags are manufactured with careful precision by hand. His leather comes from the best Italian producers and is it goes without saying - vegetable tanned. The fit of his shoes is incomparable - they fit like a second skin and conform, the more you wear them, to the way you walk. Due to their manual workmanship, it is possible to have them repaired again and again by good shoemakers. With reasonable care CYDWOQ shoes last a lifetime.
